The Diversity Visa immigrant visa program allows up to 55,000 immigrants to enter the U.S. every year from countries that have a low immigration rate. The immigrants are randomly selected based on lottery and granted permanent residency (Green Card) in the United States. To register for the DV lottery, you have to apply online and it does not involve any fee. Before you apply for the Diversity Visa Lottery Program, know if you are eligible and what to do after winning DV lottery-2025.
The registration period for the DV-2025 is now closed. The entry period was between October 4, 2023, and November 7, 2023. If you have applied for the program, you can check the results on or after May 4, 2024. You must check the results yourself using the confirmation number given after applying for the DV Lottery.
It is important to understand that you will not receive an email or letter from the Department of State informing you that you have been selected. In addition, winning the DV immigrant visa program does not guarantee that you will obtain a visa. It is just a means to help you move forward in the program.
How to Check the Status of Your DV Lottery-2025 Application?
As mentioned earlier, the Department of State will not notify you if your name is selected in the lottery. Hence, you need to check the status of your application yourself via the U.S. State Department’s E-DV website. When you visit the website, click on ‘Check Status,’ read the information on your screen, and click ‘Continue.’
Now, you need to provide your Confirmation Number, your year of birth, and your last name as mentioned on the DV Lottery application. Next, click the ‘Submit’ button and view the results.
What to Do After Winning DV Lottery-2025?
If you get selected in DV Lottery-2025 and meet the requirements, you are eligible to apply for an immigrant visa. Once your visa application is approved, you can enter the United States, obtain permanent residency, and apply for a Green Card. It is crucial to act fast after winning DV Lottery-2025. This is primarily because the immigrant visa must be issued within the fiscal year for which you have been selected.
When you get selected in the DV lottery program, you will also receive a numerical rank. This number indicates when you should apply for the immigrant visa. The result for DV Lottery-2025 will be available around May 2024. You can check the Department of State’s website towards the end of July 2024 to know when you submit your visa application. Typically, visas are first available on October 1 of each fiscal year and you can apply for the same up to 90 days before.
After winning the DV immigrant visa lottery, you will have to do the following:
Validate your qualifications: To apply for an immigrant visa after winning DV lottery-2025, you will need to confirm your qualifications. This requires you to have a valid passport, a high school diploma, or a minimum of two years of work experience in any eligible field.
Submit Form DS-260 and all supporting documents: Form DS-260 is the immigrant visa application form. Complete the form by duly filling up all required details, submit it, and take a printout of the confirmation page. You are required to carry this for your visa interview. Before that, you need to submit all required documents online.
Take a medical test: Before scheduling your interview, you must take a medical examination with any authorized physician and as per the guidelines of the Department of State.
Pay your fees and attend the interview: You need to pay $330 as the Diversity Visa fee anytime before your date of interview. On the day of your scheduled interview, carry the following documents with you:
- The confirmation page of your DS-260 form
- Your interview appointment letter
- Original copies of all supporting documents you submitted online
- A valid passport
- Your medical examination reports
- 2 recent passport-size photos
After winning DV Lottery-2025 and successfully completing the immigrant visa application process, you will obtain your diversity visa along with an immigrant packet. To enter the country after receiving the visa, you must travel before the visa expiry date and present the sealed immigrant packet at the port of entry. You must also keep your medical records handy.
